A Small Guardian: The “Substitute Jizo”
A gentle companion for everyday life—said to take on misfortune in your place. This is Komamori Studio’s Substitute Jizo.
Origin & Stories
Substitute Jizo are believed to embody compassion—carrying hardship and misfortune on behalf of their owner.
- A highway rollover— the Jizo shattered, but the driver was unharmed.
- A pregnancy complication— the statue cracked, and a healthy baby was born.
- Before a follow-up medical test, it broke— and the results later improved.
How to Keep Your Jizo
- Insert your wish: Write your wish on the included note and place it inside through the bottom.
- Display: Seat it on the quilt cushion and keep it close to you in your daily life.
- Return (Memorial): If it breaks, send it back to our studio. We will perform a memorial service at the temple.
About the Studio
The name "Komamori" represents our wish for a small guardian to protect you and watch over your worries. Let this humble clay figure be your companion.
Our Craftsmanship
1) Hand-shaped Warmth
Each piece is individually hand-shaped and finished as unglazed clay. The hollow center is a vessel for your wishes.
2) Prayer at Takatsuka Jizo Temple
After finishing, we bring each guardian to the temple where it is individually blessed before delivery.
